Module Review for NM2210

NM2210 - Interactive Media Design: Theory

What is it?

This module is a mod for those who want to go the media design path. However, this module has been taken away from the syllabus and would not be offered any more (in my impression the school has split the content taught in this module into various other modules). Therefore, I guess no one else will get to take this module any more though, but I will still roughly talk about this module.

It is a non-CA module (technically it is hard to be tested) hence there is no exams at all; no finals, and not even mid-terms. Our grade is based on 50% individual project and 50% tutorial participation (crazy isn't it?). For the project, it is a curator project which requires us to imagine ourselves as a curator and include art pieces for exhibition.
You need to write about what inspires you to do this exhibition, the theme of the exhibition, choose 6 art works and include 3 of them in the exhibition explaining why, and exclude 3 of them explaining why you considered the art works but did not include them, also the floor plan of the exhibition dictating users' experience and the venue of exhibition.

Again, reports with such high weightage YOU REALLY NEED TO START EARLY. I only started 5 days before the submission deadline and got a B. That is totally panicky because in my point of view you need the project to pull up your overall grade as I guess everyone gets around the same marks for tutorial participation. There are only lectures with no tutorials at all, hence how the participation is graded is through online participation on IVLE. There will be a group forum created by the tutor and you should be posting everything inside the group forum and could interact with other group members as well. There are group discussions during lectures so you need to sit in your groups and discuss about certain topics and write them in the forum.

Try to aim to score full marks for tutorial participation, as it consists of 50% it determines a lot on your grade as well. After every topic is posted, the lecturer will update you what's your score for that topic. Every week has a different topic.

Overall

I got an overall B+ grade.
No exams.
Individual project: 50%
Tutorial participation: 50%
Lectures: 2 hr per week
