Module Review for PR2202

PR2202 - Cosmetics and Perfumes

What is it?

Well, this is a fairly interesting and useful module to take, taught by Dr Perry Lim and Dr Celine Liew. Every week there is two 2 hr lectures with no tutorials. Heavy memory work so be prepared. The lectures are divided into 2 sections, one on cosmetics and one on perfumes. You learn about various chemical compounds and their functions, the principles behind making a perfume and facts about
human, what and how does the product work on humans.

Exam format + How to score

I regretted being lazy and didn't memorise enough. It is content heavy and requires a lot of memory work. You will need to form a group for a group project weighing 20%. There is no mid-terms but a take home quiz which consists of 20%. Basically it's just 70 MCQ questions and you can do it at home, researching all the information online. Discuss with your group mates the answers and double check everything carefully. Try your best to get full marks as it is not that hard to get and everyone who puts in moderate effort will get around the same marks, thus steep bell curve.

For the group project, it's to review about current existing product in Singapore critically and propose your own product with improvements. You need to do accurate labelling of the product and come up with a 2-D advertisement. I am thankful that I have diligent group mates who did most of the stuff.

Final exam is 60%, with 80MCQs consisting 60 marks and 2 short answer questions containing 40 marks altogether. Heavy weightage so study hard for it. Basically you just need to memorise everything that is given to you, the content is more factual hence memorising will be equivalent to understanding. Only for certain parts you may need to understand (e.g. technique of extraction in perfumes), other parts are really just pure memorization in my point of view.

Overall

I got an overall grade of B+
Group project: 20%
Individual MCQ: 20%
Final exam: 60%
Lectures: 2 lectures per week, 2 hr per lecture

No tutorials
